Adventures in Color, Light, and Shape! 1

As they relate to Character Design.
   Protagonist - Alexandra Croft.

Color

The color purple has often represented royalty or a regal position in life.
Expounding on this, it could also be interpreted to also mean arrogance or superiority over one's peers.

For the character of Alexandra many values of purple were used to connote her self-righteous indignation toward other's command.
As well as some shades of black to express her blind naivety as a result of her self-assured mindset.

Also included was some de-saturation of those purples. The more a color is de-saturated the less pure, or true that color is from its original shade. This fogged almost faded effect is used to correlate with her personality falling short of deep and “true”.

Lighting

For the lighting, an adjacent-below lighting style was chosen for a number of reasons.

First of all I wanted to show Alexandra to be isolated from her surroundings. However it is not simply supposed to be isolation from just her surroundings, she is also isolated from her peers, people living normal lives, even her friends and most of her family are separated from her.

Also the large amount of darkness this style of lighting present aided further in adding meaning. The darkness seems to engulf any foresight she could have, any chance to see herself clearly. Thus supplementing Alexandra's already arduous struggle.

The fact that the darkness covers not just her metaphoric sight, but that it masks her actual surroundings as well is another purposeful choice. It signifies dealing with an unknown world both mentally and physically.

Shape / Line

Even though her final rendered shape is primarily realistic (round),
It can be seen, that as a whole the shaping is also rectangular in nature.
This solid, formidable, and also tall structure serves to extenuate her defiant stance both visually and metaphysically.

Her line however is an area where I was determined to spend a lot of time in order to get it right. The lines within her rectangular shaped stance are tightly knit together, nearly to the point of squeezing in on themselves.

And the overall pattern of the lines outline her closed off, crossed, and reserved stance. The crossed arms, and weight shifted so that her hip juts outward were two key elements to the look of Alexandra.
Both signifying her as defensive, strong-willed, and somewhat closed introspectively.
Alexandra Croft.

(I'm rubbish with modeling, and she fit perfectly)
(Plus...the colors are different ^-^)
